Why tackling stress has to be your top priority at menopause

Tackling stress has to be your top priority at menopause because it makes every single symptom worse.

Stress drives brain fog, hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety, mood swings, poor sleep and even weight gain.

Why?

Because at menopause when your ovaries stop producing oestrogen, your adrenal glands take over. So if they are busy pumping out the stress hormone cortisol then there is a knock on effect on all other hormones and oestrogen and thyroid hormones are particularly sensitive.

Our bodies are not designed to be in β€˜fight or flight’ stress mode for long periods of time.

In fact, if you're feeling stressed for more than 15 minutes every two weeks that is chronic stress.

Cortisol is a destructive hormone, it:

πŸ’€ speeds up the ageing process
πŸ’€ shrinks your brain | kills brain cells
πŸ’€ disrupts your memory
πŸ’€ interrupts your sleep
πŸ’€ breaks down elastin and collagen πŸ’€ raises blood sugar so you gain weight
πŸ’€ makes you feel anxious

This means that taking action to manage your stress levels should be your top priority at menopause and perimenopause.
