I went to see Ruby Wax live on Saturday night. She talked about the little voice in her head and how it drove her crazy on a 30-day silent retreat.
You know the little voice I’m talking about – the one that’s always on from the moment you wake up to when you fall asleep.
Mostly, it’s bombarding you with negative thoughts like ‘’You’re an idiot’ or ‘You’re not good enough’. This is all down to our biology and overarching desire for survival.
However, these thoughts are likely sabotaging your confidence at work AND adding to your menopausal brain fog & anxiety.
BUT there’s lots you can do to take control and stop that little voice taking over your life & career.
Here are 4 simple tips to help you feel positive, calm and focused:
- Stop listening to it! It’s just a thought, it doesn’t mean anything. Acknowledge that it’s just a thought that’s trying to keep you safe & let it go. You know deep down you’re smart and most definitely good enough!
- Get into the habit of reframing negative thoughts to more positive ones such as ‘I’ve got this’, ‘I CAN do this’.
- Shift consciousness from your head to another part of your body. Place your feet firmly on the ground, take a deep breath and feel the ground below you. Focus on one of your senses, what can you hear, what can you smell?
- Practice mindfulness and/or meditation starting with as little as 1 minute a day to start building that muscle and training yourself to focus on the present.
