Stress can make every single menopausal symptom worse: hot flushes, night sweats, brain fog, anxiety, mood swings, poor sleep and weight gain.
Why?
BECAUSE hormones work together like an orchestra. When your stress hormone cortisol is out of balance, it has a knock-on effect on all your hormones, including oestrogen.
In menopause, oestrogen production moves from your ovaries to your adrenal glands [and fat cells], which means that when your adrenals are in overdrive producing cortisol it takes priority over everything else!
I didn’t even realise that I was severely stressed until I did a DUTCH test [Dried Urine Testing of Complete Hormones] recently and discovered that whilst most of my hormones were at normal levels for my age, my night-time cortisol levels were off the charts high.
To say I was shocked was an understatement, but would account for the increasing number of headaches I’ve been waking up with and which I can now do something about.
To find out more about the impact of stress on your hormones and what you can do about it watch the live discussion I had earlier this week over on Instagram with fellow Nutritional Therapist Lesley. Available here. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cck_2l9oEoQ/
AND, if you want to understand what’s really going on with all of your hormones, I can arrange a DUTCH test for you and interpret the results.
