I know how good it feels to step out with a set of shiny, glamorous, new nails.
Even though we know the damage it’s doing to our nails underneath, it can be really hard to break the cycle and give them a chance to recover.
But did you know that your nails are porous and that all the toxic chemicals involved are seeping through into your bloodstream?
Add in the multitude of personal care products you use on a daily basis – shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, body lotion, moisteuriser, make-up, and perfume [women apply on average 168 chemicals to their face & bodies every day]!
Then there are the cleaning products we use around our homes…
Plus the fertilisers, pesticides and antibiotics used in food production and it all adds up to a pretty hefty toxic load.
Most of these chemicals have not been safety tested in humans and many of them can disrupt your hormones, making your menopause symptoms worse.
This happens because structurally they’re very similar to oestrogen, which means that they can directly alter hormone levels, interfere with hormone receptors and stop hormones leaving the body.
So what can we do about it?
☠️ Reduce or avoid using chemical-based products as much as possible.
☠️ Choose organic food, free from pesticides, fertilisers and antibiotics.
☠️ Be kind to your liver [the organ that needs to makes safe and remove tox-ins and hormones from the body] by drinking enough water every day and eating lots of dark green leafy vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower and Brussel sprouts.
