Can’t think clearly at work and keep forgetting things now you’re in menopause?
45% of women say their menopausal symptoms have had a negative impact on their work according to a recent study AND I was one of them!
6 years ago in my senior corporate role, the inability to focus and lack of concentration left me struggling to do a job I had done successfully for over 25 years.
I just couldn’t seem to think straight. I felt like my brain had gone AWOL.
Here are 5 simple tips that helped me improve my memory and clear my brain fog:
1. Exercise regularly to facilitate the growth and repair of cells & blood vessels in your brain. Exercise helps get oxygen to the brain & builds new brain cells. Do exercise you enjoy such as salsa dancing, rowing, tennis.
2. Get a good night’s sleep. Lack of sleep leads to lower levels of concentration & alertness. Go to bed and wake up at the same time to reset your circadian rhythms [body clock].
3. Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s help build brain and nerve cells which will help improve your memory. Switch your cheese sandwich for a sardine salad.
4. Water your brain & avoid dehydration. Your brain cells need water to help them communicate with each other & to clear out toxins & waste that can stop them functioning. Drink 2 litres of water or herbal teas a day. [Coffee and alcohol don’t count]!
5. Manage your stress levels. Stress can kill brain cells and shrink your brain. Deep breathing and mindful meditation can switch you out of stress mode and into rest and relaxation.
Let me know how you get on!
