Research shows that gum disease can affect your entire body not just your mouth.
As Pete Williams [a pioneer in this area] says: “Leaky Gums & Leaky veins, Leaky Guts & Leaky Brains.”
At a recent conference he presented the case study of a 55-year old woman with brain fog, increasingly poor memory and symptoms of IBS. She hadn’t been to the dentist for many years and when she did was found to have gum disease ie a build up of plaque on her teeth.
Explained simply, this bad bacteria in your mouth, travels by gravity to your gut, causing IBS-type symptoms, and can then cross the internal blood barriers to get into your brain, causing memory & foggy symptoms.
So a visit to the dentist and hygienist is my new recommendation and first step in tackling your brain fog.
Here are 3 more things you can do, starting immediately:-
✔️ Drink more water and herbal tea [2 litres a day] to keep your brain hydrated.
Your brain cells need water to help them communicate with each other and to clear out toxins & waste that can stop them functioning. [Coffee and alcohol don’t count]!
✔️ Eat more foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These help build brain and nerve cells, which will help improve your memory.
Switch your tuna mayo panini for a fresh salmon salad.
✔️ Get 7-8 hours of quality sleep a night. Lack of sleep leads to lower levels of alert-ness and concentration.
Go to bed and wake up at the same time to reset your circadian rhythms [body clock].
