At this time of year, there’s mountains of food and booze around us and it's so easy to lapse into the 'New Year Resolution' mindset.
You know what I'm talking about, the 'I'll start my new eating | exercise | de-lete as appropriate | regime on January 1st" mindset.
After all what difference will 2 or 3 days make?
Actually the sooner you start, the easier it will be.
So why not start today with my 5 practical tips for a healthy and happy new year.
It could be the difference between an extra inch of muffin top to tackle on Monday!
1️⃣ Eat a protein rich breakfast by 10am, with some good fat and vegetables to help balance your blood sugar levels. Eggs are your best option, anyway you like them. They are also jam-packed with healthy nutrients.
Eating protein early in the day can also stop cravings and snacking later in the day, as well as help you sleep better.
2️⃣ Stick to 3 meals a day, with no snacking, to give your digestive system a rest.
Allowing 4-5 hours between meals also helps balance your blood sugar and avoids laying down more fat.
3️⃣ If you’re going to tuck into that box of chocolates or Christmas cake – eat it after a meal [that contains protein]. This will also help stop the excess sugar intake being stored as fat.
4️⃣ Go for a walk after eating. It helps move the sugar out of your blood and burns it up. Again your body will thank you by laying down less fat.
5️⃣ Alternate each alcoholic drink with a glass of water to help you stay hydrat-ed. It reduces the amount you drink in total and can help avoid the nasty day-after hang over. Plus, never drink on an empty stomach.
Let me know what one you're going to try this weekend?
