Summer is here at last and as we try on last year’s shorts and swimsuits, many of us don’t like what we see in the mirror, especially when we've piled on the pounds, which is oh so easy to do at menopause and perimenopause!
How to lose weight sustainably and for good is one of the questions I’m most often asked.
And in 2023 I find it hard to believe that the Government, the NHS and even some Professors of Metabolic Medicine are still promoting the ‘calories in, calories out’ theory.
In other words reduce your calories and increase your activity and you’ll lose weight – bingo!?
The problem is that if it worked, we wouldn’t have an ever growing obesity crisis now would we?
When you eat less your body adjusts and does less [aka you won't lose weight]. Reducing calories is NOT sustainable and does NOT take into account your age, sex, weight, whether you’re menopausal or even if your body is in fat-burning mode.
Let’s stop this nonsense now!?
Isn’t it obvious that 200 Kcal of sugary doughnut ?will wreak the kind of havoc on your body that 200 Kcal of avocado ?won’t!?
So if you want to lose weight and keep it off for good, you need to STOP ?eating highly refined, processed sugary and starchy foods that are causing your blood sugar levels to rise AND increasing your fat storage hormone insulin.
The secret to losing weight at menopause [and in fact at any age] is all about managing your blood sugar and Insulin levels.
This is one of the key pillars underpinning all of the work I do - with my private clients, corporate talks, workshops and NHS group sessions.
It will also be one of the key pillars of my new 4-week live programme starting soon.
