Happy Valentine’s Day!
If you're not in celebratory mode you are not alone. The British Menopause Society report that 51% of women say that menopause had affected their sex drive.
But before we think about what we can do about it, let’s consider the different problems it can cause. Not all of them require solutions!
Is it vaginal dryness, painful sex or a decrease in sexual desire?
Low oestrogen means less lubrication, less elasticity, decreased blood flow and a whole lot less pleasure!
Or maybe it’s just that you don’t want to have sex with 'him/her' anymore? Less easy to fix!
But, is there anything you can do to feel confident and sexy again?
Here’s 4 things to try:
💘 Get moving! Regular exercise not only boosts your mood and confidence but also increases blood flow to all parts of your body, including those important areas. 😉
💘 Fuel your body properly. Opt for whole, nutrient-dense foods rich in vitamins and minerals like zinc, magnesium, and B vitamins, which play key roles in hormone production and overall vitality.
💘 Include phytoestrogens in your diet, which weakly mimic human oestrogen and can help regulate your hormone levels naturally. Examples include broccoli sprouts, edamame beans, flax-seeds, nuts, sage, turmeric, thyme, and parsley.
💘 Supplements & herbs. Maca, red clover, ashwagandha and red ginseng are great for libido. Ginger, thyme, and turmeric improve blood flow and sea buckthorn oil has been shown to relieve vaginal dryness, itching and burning.
If your sex drive has disappeared since you’ve hit menopause - do not despair - there's lots you can do.
