Why it’s worth testing your hormones if you’re taking HRT

I’m often asked by clients taking HRT whether it’s worth testing their hormones and the answer is most definitely YES.

I’m not talking about blood testing here, but rather the DUTCH test [Dried Urine Testing of Complete Hormones], which is one of the most comprehensive tests available and shows you what's really going on with all of your hormones.

Even though the test can’t differentiate between the hormones produced by your body and those provided by HRT, here’s why I recommend it:

💚 The test measures your overall levels of oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone so that you can see if you're within range for a woman taking HRT, or whether you’re over-medicating.

💚 It also shows you what all the other key hormones are doing such as the stress hormone cortisol, the sleep hormone melatonin, DHEA, which is the starting point and building block of all hormones, as well as key vitamins for hormonal balance: B6 and B12.

💚 Plus, most significantly of all, when all hormones have been used in the body they need to be safely removed and eliminated via the liver and kidneys and the DUTCH test shows how effective this is and which routes they’re taking.

Why is this important?

Because once you're armed with the right information, the bigger picture, you'll know exactly what actions to take to ensure your hormones are in range. You’ll also understand whether sleep and stress are having a knock-on effect, and you can start doing what is required to ensure oestrogen is being removed safely through the two healthy pathways and not the third carcinogenic route.

Hormones are complex and work together like an orchestra, so if you’re feeling a bit off and want to find out which of your hormones need tuning up this is the best way to do it.

Test don’t guess!
